Why open a bank account in Japan?It’s good to set up a bank account when you come to Japan. In Japan the primary way of purchasing items is by cash. Credit cards are rarely used, and travelers’ checks even less. There is no debit system set up here either. Benefits of opening a bank account in Japan would be for the security of you travel funds, easier when starting a Job, and the ability to wire money to or from Japan.
