Beer and Happoshu.
While happoshu is technically not beer it is very simmilar. "Happoushu" (a low malt beer), takes up of a large part of the market as tax is lower on these products. Happoshu is around 150 yen while it's beer counter part is 200 yen or more. I personally prefer happoshu to the "real" beer. Kirin Green Label is my favorite, and cheaper too. One thing to note about alchol in Japan is that you can drink it anywhere! No need to hide it while relaxing in the park. Had a hard day at work? No problem just buy a beer from the news stand on the train platform and crack open a cold one on the way home! How much does beer cost?In bar or pub it si anywhere from 500 yen to 1,000 yen In the convinence store 150 yen for happoshu 200+ yen for real beer You will save a bit more buying it at a supermarket. Import BeersImport beers are very hard to find except budwiser, coors, guniess and a couple others. If you want to find other import beers you will need to go to an large liquor shop which are far and few between. The largest would be "Yamaya" which also sells some import foods too.
