Sometimes you have to wonder about the Japanese language.

The Japanese habit of assigning words with similar meanings to similar sounds is very useful for remembering the often convoluted but highly entertaining Japanese language.

It also lends itself quite naturally to the creation of some truely awful puns.

Then again the same kanji can also have different readings...giving rise to some truely insane double entendres.

?????
The first time I encountered this sentence in a light novel, I almost snorted tea through my nose. ?? could mean smell (a scent) or (a stink). The chinese kanji had only one meaning. The latter one. Either way I'm sure the author had quite an experience. ^ ^

I made this one up. But ?? could mean hardship () or spicy () either of which would make sense in the context (India).
